The UK government recently launched its readiness campaign, offering advice on how people can prepare for emergency events such as extreme weather or infrastructure outages.

How communities can prepare and respond to these events is the focus of the Rebooting Resilience resource, a practical guide exploring the role community organisations play in engaging with communities around emergency events.

Building community resilience involves communities and individuals coming together to identify resources and skills available during emergencies and other events requiring co-ordinated action.

Rebooting Resilience builds on examples of good practice, offering advice around developing a local community resilience plan to support preparations and responses to common, short-term events - as well as longer-term emergencies.

Community engagement is a key part of developing a robust approach to community resilience. An engaged community is much more likely to contribute to resilience responses and be able to help each other out.

With global uncertainty rising and extreme weather events becoming more common, it’s vital communities are properly supported and prepared to be part of a local, flexible response when emergencies occur.
