CHEX Conference 2026: What it takes to make it happen

This article was featured in the SCDC Weekly - 21st January 2026

How do we ensure that policy is informed by the knowledge, skills and experience of the people and organisations in our communities?

Participants at the CHEX Conference 2026 next month will be discussing this question and other pressing issues. The event is an opportunity for those working in and across community health to come together and explore what it takes for community development approaches to happen in our communities.

This year’s conference follows the publication of a joint statement on the role prevention plays in tackling Scotland’s growing health inequalities crisis and the need to put prevention approaches at the centre of not just policy, but practice.

On paper the policy environment seems favourable and ambitious, but finding practical and sustainable solutions to the ‘implementation gap’ of these ambitions is vital for sustainable and much-needed change.

The CHEX conference is a space for considered discussion and the sharing of real examples of how community-led and preventative approaches to health work on the ground.
