This week is Open Government Week, a chance for people from the third sector and government to come together and explore how we can make our communities stronger, more open, participatory, inclusive, and accountable.

Open government is a global movement, and as democracies face new pressures and trust in governments falls, it’s vital that communities feel they’re part of decision-making structures that are that are accessible and transparent.

Scotland is a member of the Open Government Partnership, and the Scottish Government works with civil society through the delivery of a series of open government action plans.

The 2021 - 2025 Action Plan has a series of commitment areas around fiscal transparency, health and social care, data and digital, climate change, and participation.

The public co-creation of the next action plan will commence over Summer and Autumn 2025. As part of the next action plan the Scottish Government has also committed to the creation of a national trust and transparency strategy.

new newsletter has been launched during the week, highlighting current activity around open government in Scotland and offering a chance to connect with others, collaborate, and share learning.
