Profiling community-led health in Dundee

This article was featured in the SCDC Weekly - 17th September

The CHEX team recently caught up with Steph, the Outreach Lead for The Corner in Dundee. Part of the Health & Social Care partnership, The Corner has a range of services provided by youth workers and clinical nursing staff.

Through their work, they aim to enable young people to look after and improve their own health and wellbeing through community development approaches to health.

The Corner has a drop-in health information service for young people aged 11-19, and they work with young people in their communities, providing activity in schools, youth work, and carers services.

Their approach is informed by a commitment to reducing health inequalities, promoting early intervention and preventative approaches to deliver high quality, person-centred care.

As we’ve seen across the sector, pressure on statutory support and reductions in budgets and workforce mean organisations like The Corner face increased demand for their services, affecting capacity to deliver groups and activity in local areas.

Despite these challenges The Corner continues to provide valuable, informal, inclusive and accessible health and wellbeing services across the city.
