Supporting community-led responses to climate and health

This article was featured in the SCDC Weekly - 14th January 2026

What's the relationship between health inequalities and climate impact? That's the question Unbound will be exploring with Scotland's communities.

Communities bring huge amounts of experience, enthusiasm and ability to tackle even the largest, most persistent global issues. We know thiscommunity-led action can be hugely effective and lead to increased skills, knowledge, and confidence.

We also need to ensure that this change happens equally across our communities. It’s vital to recognise that some communities (of place, interest, or identitiy) face more barriers than others in being able to have their voices and priorities heard.

That means they should be properly supported and resourced  to meaningfully shape how decisions are made - especially on such fundamental issues like climate change and health policy.

Unbound will work in a way that upholds these community development values, and supports local activity that shows the power of collective action to make real change happen - led by communities themselves.
