The value and impact of community food initiatives
/This article was featured in the SCDC Weekly - 12th November
A new article has outlined the ways community food initiatives, from large, well-established organisations to small grassroots groups, are positively addressing community health across Scotland.
Published by Public Health Scotland, the article highlights the work these organisations carry out, providing access to healthy, affordable food, as well as supporting wider health outcomes.
Tackling loneliness, getting people engaged with healthy food, offering training and advice, and advocating for communities are all key roles they play. All of this work supports the preventive approaches we know work, and have been placed at the forefront of tackling Scotland’s health inequalities crisis.
"During our engagement activities," Alison Owens, Health Improvement Manager, writes "we heard powerful stories from community food initiatives, highlighting the dedication of their experienced workforce, and their ability to build strong local partnerships."
The Community Food and Health Scotland bulletin remains a valuable resource for understanding the impact these organisations are having in the communities they work with and support.
