Tackling Sectarianism and its Consequences in Scotland

As part of the Scottish Government's commitment to tackling sectarianism the Independent Advisory Group on Tackling Sectarianism in Scotland was commissioned in August 2012 to provide independent, impartial advice on the issue and set out actions needed to tackle this issue in a robust and holistic way.

The advisory group has published its final report, available here

The findings, conclusions and recommendations contained in the report are for a wide variety of organisations across Scotland to consider and respond. One if the report's conclusions states:

"All efforts to address sectarianism in Scotland must be relevant to specifically Scottish circumstances and community experiences aiming to build relationships in communities and institutions and ensure difference is acknowledged, accepted and celebrated."

The Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs welcomes the work of the Advisory Group and today published the Scottish Government response, available here

The Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs also updated and published ‘An Examination of the Evidence on Sectarianism in Scotland'. This can be found here.
