Influencing services in North Lanarkshire - workshop

Would you like to hear about a way for groups to start a discussion with decision makers about improving public services?

Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC) is working with North Lanarkshire Council’s Community Partnership Team to offer local community organisations an awareness raising workshop on your right to shape and influence services in North Lanarkshire – this workshop on participation requests will focus on addressing inequality and promoting equality.

Participation requests are part of the Community Empowerment Act. Over the last two years, community groups across Scotland have been making them, and we’re trying to help more people to know about them.

This workshop will take place on Wednesday 27th November, 10am – 1pm, at Coatbridge Community Centre, 9 Old Monklands Road, Coatbridge, ML5 5EA.

It will help you to:

  • Understand what participation requests are

  • Think about whether they are a good approach for you to take

  • How to make one

  • Know more about working with others to improve public services

The workshop will be particularly relevant to community groups with protected characteristics* or who are experiencing poverty, as well as anyone who supports or works with these groups.

The workshop will be delivered by Andrew Paterson from Scottish Community Development Centre and is kindly being hosted by North Lanarkshire Council.

If you would like to book a place please on the workshop please contact Annette Warren (North Lanarkshire Council) on 01236 856455 – places are limited and priority will be given to those groups supporting individuals from protected characteristics and experiencing poverty, inequality and exclusion.

*Under the Equality Act, there are nine protected characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and sex.
