Understanding our Community: Community-led action research

Supporting communities to develop their skills and abilities to undertake research and evidence issues of concern is a positive way of building the capacity of communities to achieve change.

Based on our extensive experience of successfully supporting community groups to undertake their own research we now provide training for staff to support communities to carry out their own research.

In this training you will:

  • Learn about the core values and processes of a community-led action research approach

  • Be introduced to a practical resource - Action Research in Communities (ARC) - which is designed to assist practitioners and groups to undertake their own community research projects.

  • Gain hands-on experience of action research so that you can try out the approach on the day

"It has improved my research process by given me a variety of options to utilise when doing so. In addition to this it has improved my confidence in using different research methods, expanding on my understanding on sectarian issues in the West Coast of Scotland as well as further afield in Belfast."
