It’s a global issue of social and economic justice, with the impacts of climate change worse for those who have the least wealth and power.

We know that climate change and inequalities share the same root cause – our unsustainable economic system, so we must address both issues together.

As we shift towards a carbon neutral economy and society begins to benefit, it’s vital we don’t leave anyone behind;
a just transition is essential.

To do this, communities and community development approaches must play a key role in helping make the case and actively influence for a fairer and sustainable economic and social model.

The vital contribution of communities is well-illustrated by...

- Scotland’s existing climate activism.

- The community-led response to the Covid-19 emergency.

- The progressive recommendations of Scotland’s recent citizens’ assemblies.

With time running out, governments need to be brave, act now, and involve communities from the start.
