Fiona Garven - Director 

Fiona is Director of the Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC), which incorporates the Community Health Exchange (CHEX), and the Scottish Co-Production Network (SCN). She is Chair of Community Development Alliance Scotland (CDAS - a network of 91 national organisations which support Community Development approaches to their work) and Co-Chair of the SCN. (MORE)



David Allan - Deputy Director

David has broad responsibility for strategic management of all contracts delivered by SCDC. He also has a particular focus on shaping the research and learning functions of the organisation in meeting SCDC’s overall strategic themes. Key areas of programme work which he currently oversees include: Supporting Communities (community capacity building programme); the Scottish Co-production Network; and the Review of the National Standards for Community Engagement.  (MORE)



Susan Paxton - Head of Programme

As a Head of Programme in SCDC, Susan works on a range of national programmes and undertakes a variety of small consultancy and training projects across Scotland on topics such as strategic planning, community engagement, community capacity building and community development generally. Most recently she has taken lead responsibility for developing and producing the Building Stronger Communities resource which is designed to assist communities and the agencies that support them to collaboratively research, assess and plan for stronger, more resilient communities.  (MORE


 Mick Doyle- Head of Programme

Mick is an experienced manager in community development and recently joined SCDC as Head of Programmes. He has worked in community development and equalities contexts for over 28 years as a practitioner, manager, policy maker and researcher for a number of public and third sector organisations.


Clare O'Neill - Head of Finance

Clare is responsible for all financial administration at SCDC, for financial reporting to the Director and the Board of Trustees, and manages all external financial services.



Kate McHendry - Development Manager 

Kate's role within SCDC focuses on Community Capacity Building and Action Research. She is currently working on the Supporting Communities national programme that facilitates communities to develop their skills and confidence; strengthen their organisations to enable them be more effective and influential in their activities. She also works on several action research projects including SCoTTS (Supporting Communities to tackle Sectarianism) part of the Scottish Government’s national anti-sectarian programme. And Animating Assets a collaborative action research and learning programme in partnership with Glasgow Centre for Population Health. Kate also delivers on smaller training and consultancy projects. (MORE)



Elspeth Gracey, Development Manager

Elspeth's role within CHEX is to support organisations in the CHEX Network. She encourages networking and sharing of good practice via seminars, training and learning events. She has a particular interest in the role of local organisations in supporting good mental well-being. She also participates in a range of national working groups ensuring that the community-led health perspective is reflected at a national level. Elspeth works for CHEX three days a week. (MORE)



Paul Nelis - Development Manager 

 Paul Nelis has an extensive background in community development approaches through his work for Greater Easterhouse Social Inclusion Partnership and Scottish Enterprise (Glasgow & Ayrshire) before joining Scottish Community Development Centre.  With over 20 years experience he has a particular interest in community research, community-led health improvement, community engagement (planning & methods), strategic planning and evaluation. Olivia Hanley - Development Manager 

Olivia works across a range of SCDC programmes with an interest in community engagement, co-production and community capacity building. She currently delivers on the Supporting Communities programme, which involves working with groups and communities across Scotland to support them in developing their skills and confidence, and strengthening their organisations to enable them be more effective and influential in their activities.

Olivia played a lead role in supporting the establishment of the Scottish Co-production Network as its Coordinator and continues to support the network as part of the SCDC programme team.  The network supports people from a range of organisations in their learning and practice exchange of co-production practice in Scotland. (MORE)



David Reilly - Development Manager

David works as a Development manager contributing to range of programmes running across the Scottish Community Development Centre and Community Health Exchange. This involves providing advice and support to community organisations to enable them to be more effective and influential, delivering national training programmes and events to improve community development practice as well as conducting research and needs analysis related to community development policy and practice.  (MORE)

 Robin Jamieson - Development Mananger

Robin joined SCDC in August 2015 and works across a range of SCDC programmes including Supporting Communities to Tackle Sectarianism (SCoTTS), Local Authorities and Welfare Reform and People Powered Health & Wellbeing. In addition, Robin supports the delivery of Community Development and Engagement training. Robin's SCoTTS activity centres on the coordination of a mentoring project and the delivery of the co-inquiry programme. (MORE)


Andrew Paterson - Policy Research Officer

Andrew's role as Policy and Research Officer is to provide an efficient and effective policy and research function for the delivery of SCDC programmes and, in doing so, help to maintain SCDC's position at the forefront of community development practice and policy in Scotland. (MORE)



Victoria Muir - Internal Services Manager

Victoria works across SCDC to manage the provision of an effective, efficient, compliant and best practice human resources, facilities and ICT management service. Victoria works to support the Director in the strategic aims of the organisation. (MORE)



Alex Macdonald - Administrator

Alex provides administrative and financial support across SCDC.



Sam Jordan - Information and Communications Manager

Responsible for the communications output of SCDC, CHEX and the Scottish Co-production Network, Sam creates and promotes materials across a range of programmes and projects. He works with Development Managers to organise events, publish newsletters and keep a range of websites and social media accounts up-to-date. Sam currently produces CHEX-Point Snippets, which is published every two weeks. (MORE)


 Sarah Jane Mc Geown- Information and Communications Assistant 

Sarah Jane provides extra support working alongside Sam in the delivery of our marketing activities and promotional content through our online channels. Sarah Jane has a First Class Honours Degree in Marketing but within her fourth year at university developed a keen interest in the third sector, particularly in community development. Sarah Jane has a range of relevant experience within similar roles in digital media and skills in using creative formats to communicate messages.
