Some background

We decided we needed a new website in 2017, along with a change in how we communicate who we are, what we do and what community development is.

The website is the start of a bigger process and we’ve been trying out new ways of communicating - we’ll have more on that soon.

Some information about the site and its development:

  • The site was designed and developed entirely in-house by our comms team.

  • It uses Squarespace, which has been a good balance of customisation and fully-hosted safety. It's code framework is pretty easy to work with and is well documented, but there's limitations like no server side access and it can be a bit hacky at times.

  • It's fully mobile responsive, because it's 2018.

  • We went from 250+ pages (not including news items) to about 30. We have a lot of re-directs...

  • Pretty much all the content was written from scratch. That took a long time, especially when you're trying to explain complex stuff like community development.

  • It took over a year of part time development, in between our usual delivery.

  • During this beta we're mainly fixing issues around re-directs and missing pages, but we're also looking at how people use the site and thinking about we need to do next.

Again, we hope you like it and thanks for any feedback.
