Powering Ahead: Citizen involvement in the future of public services - event
The Fred Edwards Trust and the Scottish Community Development Centre, in conjunction with the internationally respected Highlander Education and Resource Center in Tennessee, have developed a unique action learning event for all those involved in re-defining the future shape and of public services in Scotland.
- Powering Ahead: Citizen involvement in the future of public services
- 10 am to 4 pm on Thursday 28 August 2014, Dewar's Centre Perth
With real efforts being made to take forward the work of the Christie Commission, whether formally through developments such as the Community Empowerment Bill, or Health and Social Care Integration, or more broadly on issues like the environment, poverty and equalities, this event could not be more timely. The drive to improve citizen engagement in public services is at the forefront of public policy in Scotland today.
The event will combine the ‘Skilled Citizen' masterclass, to be delivered by Pam McMichael and Elandria Williams from the Highlander Center, with a range of round-table action learning sets, each focussing on a specific topic area such as community empowerment, health and social care integration, climate change, social enterprise and land use.
Public bodies, third sector organisations and active citizens will bring to the table the issues facing them as they seek to re-define their roles and relationships in a way that will enable them to work more effectively together to transform public services and improve their communities. In the round table action learning sets, participants will help each other to work up possible solutions to the challenges that they have brought to the table by sharing their own knowledge and experience and by drawing on what they have learned from the ‘Skilled Citizen' masterclasses.

A number of bursary places are available for people who are not funded to attend by an organisation. Also, if you would be interested in taking an exhibition stand at this event, please contact Linda Dunion.
If you can't make it along to 'Powering Ahead', you might want to attend the 2014 public lecture, which will be delivered by Pam McMichael at 6.30 pm in Edinburgh on 28 August. Details will shortly appear on the Fred Edwards Trust website, here.
