How action research can help to deliver better public services

Research for Real has produced a paper entitled ‘When are you ever not ‘piloting'? How action research can help to deliver better public services'. It argues that action research is a way of overcoming the endless cycle of research pilots which too often don't make an impact on the social problems they intend to address. By researching with the people affected by an issue, action research is critical to building the capacities of communities. The paper highlights this approach within the context of Scotland's public service reform debate, and concludes with 10 tips for getting started. SCDC supports this position and encourages you to visit the Research for Real website and contribute to their blog on this subject.
