Event: Town Centres & Community Development and Engagement

Working jointly with Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC), Scotland's Towns Partnership are delivering a scoping exercise to unpick a number of issues such as: what role do local partnerships see communities playing in local town partnerships; what kind of "communities" are town/town centre partnerships serving; are communities already involved in some partnerships - if so, who is it; if not, what are the barriers/challenges in getting them involved?; are there capacity issues for both communities & local partnerships, that can be supported; if so, what type of support is needed and how best could that be resourced/provided? If we find we have a clear agenda and real interest in pursuing specific issues further we will jointly seek to address this in a practical approach.

SCDC is also extending support that will help to increase the capacity of community groups/organisations to effect change and contribute to the regeneration of their communities. Within the overall support package SCDC aims to provide an average of 5 days consultancy support to around 100 community groups/organisations across the country. The nature of this support will vary depending on the particular needs/circumstances of the participating groups but may include: advice, guidance and signposting; access to tools and resources; training delivery; mentoring/practical support; and connecting and networking.

The support is designed to supplement existing community capacity building support and to help groups to connect with each other, and with other sources of support that exist. Further info is available from David Allan or Fiona Garven or phone 0141 248 1924.
