Community Research Officer (Sectarianism) - Communtiy Links

Community Links (South Lanarkshire) is recruiting a full time (35 hours per week, inclusive of evening/weekend work) Community Research Officer to carry out varied research work into sectarianism in South Lanarkshire and beyond.  The post holder will be responsible for carrying out research that helps communities, practitioners and policy makers' challenge and understand sectarianism in Scotland.

Working with a wide remit, across multiple communities (including online), and a range of partners and colleagues, the post holder will:

  • Work with the Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC) to carry out action research activity and knowledge sharing events with eight projects across Scotland.
  • Carry out oral history and community research in South Lanarkshire.
  • Work with Community Links' social marketing officer to deliver a social marketing campaign aimed at challenging sectarianism in social media spaces.

A knowledge of social research methodologies, especially community based approaches, will be required, as will a working knowledge of sectarianism in Scotland.  In addition, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to work productively with colleagues and partners and will be able to work with little supervision.  A knowledge of social media and social marketing would be a distinct advantage.

The worker's base will primarily be Blantyre, but will be expected to work throughout various areas in central Scotland.

Community Links (South Lanarkshire) deliver innovative and effective consultation services to partner agencies and service providers to involve members of the community in local decisions.  Community Links are an independent community consultation and engagement organisation and are challenged to tackle poverty in local communities; with particular emphasis on areas which fall into the 15% worst deprivation as identified by SIMD.  No other voluntary sector organisation in the local area offer similar services.
